(wgvu) - MICHIGAN'S U-S SENATORS SAY THAT THE NATION'S
FUEL ECONOMY REGULATIONS ARE OUT OF DATE.
THEY SPOKE IN WASHINGTON TODAY AT A HEARING OF THE SENATE'S
TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE, WHICH IS HOLDING HEARINGS ON PROPOSALS TO
REQUIRE THAT VEHICLES GET BETTER MILEAGE.
DEMOCRATS CARL LEVIN AND DEBBIE STABENOW SAY THAT AUTOMAKERS
COULD GET IMPROVED FUEL EFFICIENCY THROUGH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES
SUCH AS PLUG-IN HYBRIDS AND BETTER BATTERIES.
CALIFORNIA DEMOCRAT DIANNE FEINSTEIN IS ONE OF THE BIG BACKERS
OF HIGHER FUEL ECONOMY STANDARDS.
SHE SAYS THEY'RE NEEDED TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING AND AMERICA'S
GROWING DEPENDENCE ON IMPORTED OIL.
