VIETNAM MEMORIAL
(2007-05-04)
(wgvu) -
THE NAME OF A MICHIGAN MAN IS ONE OF THREE
BEING ADDED TO THE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL IN WASHINGTON.
NAVY FIREMAN APPRENTICE JOSEPH GERALD KRYWICKI (KRY-WIHK'-EE)
WAS FROM HOLTON, NEAR MUSKEGON.
KRYWICKI WAS KILLED IN 1966 IN VIETNAM WHEN A MEMBER OF HIS UNIT
ACCIDENTALLY FIRED HIS RIFLE.
THE NAVY INITIALLY DECLINED TO ADD KRYWICKI'S NAME TO THE
MEMORIAL BECAUSE HE DIED IN A SO-CALLED "FRIENDLY FIRE" INCIDENT,
NOT COMBAT.
THE NAVY REVERSED COURSE AFTER HIS FAMILY MADE INQUIRIES.
