EMERALD ASH BORER
(2007-05-02)
(wgvu) - FEDERAL EXPERTS SAY AN EXOTIC BEETLE THAT
DESTROYS ASH TREES COULD SPREAD FROM THE GREAT LAKES STATES ACROSS
THE EAST-CENTRAL UNITED STATES WITHIN THE NEXT TWO DECADES.
THE EMERALD ASH BORER ALREADY HAS INFESTED TREES IN MORE THAN
12-HUNDRED COMMUNITIES IN MICHIGAN, INDIANA, ILLINOIS AND OHIO.
THE WISCONSIN SENATE HELD A HEARING ON THE ASH BORER TODAY.
A U-S AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT EXPERT TESTIFIED THAT THE BEETLE
COULD INFEST 12-THOUSAND MUNICIPALITIES FROM MINNESOTA TO NORTH
CAROLINA BY 2027 UNLESS IT'S STOPPED.
SO FAR, WISCONSIN REMAINS BEETLE-FREE, AND THE STATE HAS BEEN
TESTING FOR THE INSECT.
