(wgvu) - THE AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION SAYS THAT THE
DETROIT AREA HAS THE NATION'S FIFTH-WORST AIR POLLUTION.
THE REPORT IS BASED ON MEASUREMENTS FROM 2003 THROUGH 2005.
THE GROUP SAYS THE LOS ANGELES AREA HAS THE WORST AIR POLLUTION
IN AMERICA, FOLLOWED BY THE AREAS AROUND PITTSBURGH; BAKERSFIELD,
CALIFORNIA; AND BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA.
METROPOLITAN DETROIT WAS FOLLOWED BY CLEVELAND; VISALIA,
CALIFORNIA; CINCINNATI; INDIANAPOLIS; AND SAINT LOUIS.
THE LUNG ASSOCIATION ANALYZED STATISTICS FOR OZONE AND PARTICLE
POLLUTION.
THEY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO HEART DISEASE, LUNG CANCER AND ASTHMA.
