Tuskegee Airmen Museum
(2007-04-27)
(wgvu) - Plans would locate a Tuskegee Airmen museum at
Coleman A. Young International Airport in Detroit.
U-S Air Force Major General Lucius Theus says a renovated hangar
will house the new, national museum.
The museum will feature memorabilia and full-scale models of
fighter planes and bombers flown by the legendary all-black World
War Two pilots.
The project's estimated cost is about 26 (m) million dollars.
Theus says actual work and completion still are several years away.
Funds will be raised through a national campaign, Tuskegee
Airmen events and donations.
Uniforms, photos and other contents of a smaller Airmen museum
will be transferred from Historic Fort Wayne on Detroit's southwest
side.
