Rodin Sculpture at Meijer Gardens
(2007-04-27)
(wgvu) - Think of it as a thoughtful
gesture.
The Detroit Institute of Arts is closing this summer for the
final phase of a 158 (m) million-dollar renovation that started six
years ago.
A casting of Rodin's (roh-DANZ') iconic sculpture "The
Thinker" has sat outside the entrance of the museum for decades.
The sculpture has to be moved to accommodate exterior work.
So it's being moved to the Grand Rapids area.
The Detroit museum is loaning "The Thinker" to Frederik Meijer
Gardens and Sculpture Park.
It will stand outdoors there, too, while on display from May
23rd through October 31st.
