Evacuation in Down Town Lansing
(2007-04-26)
(wgvu) - A gas main was struck this morning by
crews working on the a sewer separation project, forcing
authorities to evacuate Lansing City Hall and several other
buildings in the heart of downtown.
By early afternoon, people appeared to be returning to city
hall.
No injuries were reported.
Lansing police Lieutenant Bruce Ferguson says that anyone with
state or city business should contact the appropriate office to
make sure it is up and running.
Police say the state Capitol and the Romney Building, where the
governor's office is located, were not affected.
Employees huddled in front of buildings this morning after they
were evacuated, trying to stay out of the rain and awaiting word on
whether they would return to work.
