MIXED-UP VICTIMS,

(wgvu) - A MICHIGAN MAN WHOSE DAUGHTER WAS INITIALLY
MISIDENTIFIED AS BEING KILLED IN A TAYLOR UNIVERSITY VAN CRASH A
YEAR AGO THANKED THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY FOR ITS SUPPORT.
AT A CHAPEL SERVICE WEDNESDAY, NEWELL CERAK OF GAYLORD SPOKE PUBLICLY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE UNIVERSITY VAN COLLIDED
WITH A SEMITRAILER TRUCK LAST APRIL 26TH, KILLING FIVE.
CERAK'S DAUGHTER, WHITNEY, WAS AT FIRST BELIEVED TO BE AMONG THE
DEAD. AUTHORITIES LATER SAID ANOTHER CRASH VICTIM WHO WAS IN A COMA
WAS ACTUALLY WHITNEY. LAURA VANRYN OF CALEDONIA WAS
MISTAKENLY LISTED AS A SURVIVOR.
THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK IS SCHEDULED TO BE TRIED IN AUGUST ON
CHARGES INCLUDING RECKLESS HOMICIDE.
WHITNEY CERAK RETURNED TO CAMPUS LAST AUGUST. ANOTHER PUBLIC
MEMORIAL SERVICE IS PLANNED FOR TOMORROW NIGHT.
