Lawmakers want to broaden reporting of abortion complications
doctors and clinics underreport the number of health complications
stemming from abortions in Michigan.
Kevin Green, a Republican lawmaker from Wyoming in the state
House, has introduced a bill that would allow anyone with knowledge
of an abortion complication to report it to the state Department of
Community Health.
A Michigan law already requires doctors to report when a
complication arises from an abortion.
But Green said that based on recent statistics, he doesn't
believe all doctors, hospitals and clinics are obeying that law.
Critics of Green's proposal disagree and say that the law is
being followed.
