JAPAN-NISSAN-MAZDA-RECALLS

(wgvu) - JAPANESE AUTOMAKER NISSAN IS RECALLING ABOUT 113,000 SERENA MINIVANS DUE TO AN EXHAUST PIPE PROBLEM.
THE MINIVANS -- SOLD ONLY IN JAPAN -- WERE PRODUCED BETWEEN
APRIL 2005 AND AUGUST 2006. PARTS OF THE
MINIVAN'S EXHAUST PIPE CAN CORRODE, AND IN WORST CASES THE PIPE
COULD FALL OFF. THERE WERE 46 REPORTED CASES OF PROBLEMS BUT NO
ACCIDENTS.
MEANWHILE, MAZDA IS RECALLING 4,300 BONGO COMMERCIAL
VEHICLES OVER AN AUTOMATIC SHIFT SYSTEM PROBLEM. NONE OF THE BONGO
MODELS ARE SOLD OVERSEAS.
MAZDA RECEIVED 61 REPORTS OF PROBLEMS BUT NONE OF ACCIDENTS.
THAT RECALL ALSO INVOLVES THE SAME MODEL SOLD BY NISSAN AND
MITSUBISHI. THOSE MODELS WERE MADE BETWEEN DECEMBER 2003 AND NOVEMBER 2005.
