IPODS IN SCHOOL
(2007-04-12)
(wgvu) - A PROPOSAL TO BUY IPODS AND MP3 PLAYERS
FOR K-12 STUDENTS IN MICHIGAN HAS SOME DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS
DISTANCING THEMSELVES FROM THE IDEA ENDORSED BY OTHERS IN THEIR
PARTY.
THE IDEA FIRST SURFACED LAST WEEK, WHEN STATE HOUSE DEMOCRATS
MENTIONED DURING A NEWS CONFERENCE ON THE STATE BUDGET THAT THEY
WANTED TO SPEND MONEY ON IPODS BECAUSE THEY CAN HELP STUDENTS
LEARN.
THE PROPOSAL HAS DRAWN CRITICISM AND RIDICULE IN SOME CIRCLES.
REPUBLICANS BLAST THE PLAN AS CRAZY. AND EVEN SOME DEMOCRATS ARE
WONDERING WHY THE IDEA WOULD BE FLOATED WHEN THE STATE IS FACING A
BUDGET SHORTFALL.
DEMOCRATIC LEADERS BEHIND THE PROPOSAL ARE UNDER SCRUTINY
BECAUSE APPLE, WHICH MAKES IPODS, AT LEAST PARTLY PAID FOR THEIR
TRIP TO THE COMPANY'S HEADQUARTERS IN CALIFORNIA EARLIER THIS YEAR.
