(wgvu) - EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY FACULTY HAVE
TENTATIVELY AGREED TO TERMS ON A NEW CONTRACT WITH THE SCHOOL'S
ADMINISTRATION.
PROFESSORS HAD BEEN WORKING FOR SEVEN MONTHS UNDER TERMS OF AN
EXPIRED CONTRACT.
FACULTY MEMBERS WENT ON A 12-DAY STRIKE LAST SEPTEMBER. THEY
ENDED THE WALKOUT AFTER ENDORSING AN INDEPENDENT FACT-FINDER WHO
DRAFTED THE TERMS OF TODAY'S AGREEMENT.
THE COMPROMISE CALLS FOR SALARY INCREASES IN EACH OF THE NEXT
FOUR YEARS, AND FACULTY WILL ALSO GET A ONE-PERCENT CONTRIBUTION
TOWARD RETIREMENT PLANS.
IN EXCHANGE, THE ADMINISTRATION WILL IMPLEMENT HEALTH-INSURANCE
PREMIUMS AVERAGING ABOUT ONE-THOUSAND DOLLARS.
THE DEAL MUST BE RATIFIED BY THE FACULTY UNION AND UNIVERSITY
REGENTS.
