AMERICAN IDOL-JONES
(2007-04-11)
(wgvu) - LAKISHA JONES'S SAUCY PERFORMANCE LEFT A BAD
TASTE IN THE MOUTHS OF TWO "AMERICAN IDOL" JUDGES.
THE FLINT NATIVE GAVE A TORRID RENDITION OF THE 1986 GLORIA
ESTEFAN HIT "CONGA" DURING TONIGHT'S TELECAST, SASHAYING OFF THE
STAGE AND PAST THE FRONT ROW OF AUDIENCE MEMBERS.
JUDGE RANDY JACKSON LIKED THE SULTRY SINGING, TELLING JONES SHE
MADE THE SONG HER OWN.
SHE DREW MEASURED BUT RARE CRITICISM FROM JUDGE PAULA ABDUL, WHO
CALLED IT "A REAL SAFE LAKISHA PERFORMANCE."
SIMON COWELL AGREED, SAYING THE SONG IS NOT A SINGER'S SONG AND
CRITICIZING JONES' DANCING.
JONES WILL LEARN TOMORROW NIGHT WHETHER SHE MADE THE CUT.
