TROOPER SUES
for refusing to work as a prison chaplain.
Bruce Paris filed a federal lawsuit against his former employer
after the state last year terminated his worker compensation
benefits.
The 44-year-old Belleville resident got hurt in 2000 when a
semi-trailer rear-ended his patrol cruiser. The state granted him
disability retirement in 2002.
Paris is a member of the Pentecostal church who holds a master's
degree in biblical studies. He says he was neither ordained nor
called to the ministry. Paris says his conscience wouldn't let him
take the job.
