(2007-03-16)
(wgvu) - A MAN WHO POLICE SAY IS ONE THE MOST PROLIFIC
SERIAL KILLERS IN DETROIT'S HISTORY HAS BEEN CONVICTED IN A SECOND
MURDER OF A PROSTITUTE.
JURORS TOOK JUST 30 MINUTES TODAY TO FIND SHELLY BROOKS GUILTY
IN THE SLAYING OF RHONDA MYLES, WHOSE BODY WAS FOUND IN APRIL 2002.
BROOKS WAS CONVICTED LAST WEEK FOR THE MURDER OF PAMELA GREER.
A SENTENCING DATE WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY SET. FIRST DEGREE MURDER
CARRIES A MANDATORY SENTENCE OF LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE.
THE 38-YEAR-OLD BROOKS ALSO FACES CHARGES IN THE SLAYINGS OF
FIVE OTHER PROSTITUTES DATING BACK TO 2001.
ASSISTANT WAYNE COUNTY PROSECUTOR ROBERT MORAN SAYS PROSECUTORS
WILL LIKELY DECIDE WHICH OTHER CASES TO TRY AFTER BROOKS IS
SENTENCED.
