SEWER MALFUNCTION
(2007-03-05)
(wgvu) - A SEWER MAIN BREAK THAT FORCED
DOZENS OF MUSKEGON COUNTY RESIDENTS TO EVACUATE THEIR FLOODED HOMES
HAS BEEN FIXED.
THE BREAK FORCED OFFICIALS TO SHUT DOWN MOST OF THE COUNTY'S
WASTEWATER PUMP STATIONS.
UNTREATED SEWAGE SEEPED INTO MUSKEGON, MONA AND BEAR LAKES,
PROMPTING HEALTH OFFICIALS TO ISSUE A NO-CONTACT ADVISORY FOR ALL
THREE LAKES.
COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS OFFICIALS SAY CREWS REPLACED THREE, 20-FOOT
SECTIONS OF OLD PIPE FROM THE 66-INCH MAIN.
THEY SAY RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES ARE NOW FREE TO DISCHARGE INTO
THE SEWER SYSTEM.
