FARM WORKER KILLED
(2007-02-21)
(wgvu) - A 65-YEAR-OLD FARM WORKER FROM LOWELL IS DEAD, AFTER BECOMING TRAPPED IN A GRAIN BIN FILLED WITH CORN.
DEPUTIES HAVE IDENTIFIED THE VICTIM OF TUESDAY'S ACCIDENT AS
RUSSELL FISK.
HE WAS USING AN AUGER TO LOAD SHELLED CORN FROM THE BIN INTO A
TRACTOR-TRAILER AT KOSTEN FARMS IN MONTCALM TOWNSHIP JUST NORTH OF
GREENVILLE.
FISK APPARENTLY CLIMBED TO THE TOP OF THE BIN AND EITHER FELL
INSIDE OR ENTERED IT WHILE TRYING TO REMOVE SOME ICE THAT HAD
FORMED AT THE TOP.
DEPUTIES SAY THE ACTION OF THE CORN BEING REMOVED FROM THE BIN
BY THE AUGER PULLED HIM TO THE BOTTOM.
OTHER WORKERS CALLED THE COUNTY'S DISPATCH CENTER AFTER NOTICING
FISK MISSING AROUND 10 A-M.
EMERGENCY PERSONNEL PULLED HIS BODY FROM THE BIN ABOUT THREE
HOURS LATER.
