THE MICHIGAN MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL IS ONE OF THE NATION'S PREMIER ORGANIZATIONS FOR INCREASING OPPORTUNITIES BETWEEN MAJOR BUYING ORGANIZATIONS AND MINORITY OWNED FIRMS. FOUNDED 25 YEARS AGO, THE PRIVATELY FUNDED NON PROFIT HELPS BRING ABOUT MORE THAN 14 (M) MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR IN PURHASES FROM MINORITY BUSINESSES.
M-M-B-D-C PRESIDENT PHILLIP GREEN AGREES THAT DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE HAS ADVANCED OVER THE YEARS - BUT NOT BECAUSE OF GOVERNMENT DICTATES. HE SAYS WHILE THERE ARE VARIOUS CIVIL RIGHTS AND ANTI DISCRIMINATION LAWS ON THE BOOKS, THERE ARE FEW THAT DEAL WITH BUSINESS CONTRACTS OTHER THAN AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL.
BY THE YEAR 2015, THE NATION'S MINORITY POPULATION IS PROJECTED TO GROW BY 29 (M) MILLION. GREEN WILL SPEAK TOMORROW (WED/21) AT GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY'S LOOSEMORE AUDITORIUM AS PART OF THE CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
