WHITE-COLLAR FORD WORKERS CAN ACCEPT BUYOUT OR EARLY RETIREMENT
OFFERS AS THE AILING COMPANY LOOKS TO CUT COSTS.
FORD, WHICH REPORTED A $12.7 BILLION-DOLLAR LOSS
FOR 2006, IS HOPING THAT 10,000 SALARIED EMPLOYEES ACCEPT THE
OFFERS. ABOUT 4,000 LEFT THE COMPANY LAST YEAR.
THE DEARBORN-BASED AUTOMAKER HAS IT COULD INSTITUTE LAYOFFS IF
IT DOESN'T MEET ITS TARGET.
FORD IN NOVEMBER ANNOUNCED THE 38,000 HOURLY EMPLOYEES
ACCEPTED BUYOUT AND EARLY RETIREMENT PLANS.
INFORMATION ABOUT HOW MANY SALARIED EMPLOYEES ACCEPT THE BUYOUTS
WON'T BE AVAILABLE UNTIL FORD RELEASES ITS FIRST-QUARTER FINANCIAL
RESULTS IN APRIL.
