NEW COUNTY PICKED FOR TRIAL OF TRUCKER IN THE TRIAL OF A TRUCK DRIVER ACCUSED OF
CAUSING A CRASH THAT KILLED AN EMPLOYEE AND FOUR STUDENTS FROM AN
INDIANA COLLEGE IS BEING MOVED.
THE CRASH KILLED LAURA VANRYN OF CALEDONIA, MICHIGAN. SHE WAS
MISIDENTIFIED FOR WEEKS AS WHITNEY CERAK OF GAYLORD, WHO SURVIVED
WITH SERIOUS INJURIES.
ATTORNEYS AGREED YESTERDAY TO MOVE THE TRIAL AGAINST ROBERT
SPENCER ABOUT 40 MILES AWAY TO ANOTHER COUNTY IN INDIANA. DEFENSE
ATTORNEY JOE KEITH LEWIS SAYS THE MOVE ENSURES THE TRIAL WON'T BE
AFFECTED BY THE PRESENCE OF PEOPLE FROM TAYLOR UNIVERSITY.
SPENCER WAS ARRESTED IN SEPTEMBER AT HIS CANTON TOWNSHIP HOME IN
WAYNE COUNTY ON FIVE COUNTS OF RECKLESS HOMICIDE AND OTHER CHARGES,
ALL STEMMING FROM THE APRIL 26TH CRASH ON INTERSTATE 69.
