SAINT MARYS
(2007-02-12)
(wgvu) - ST. MARY'S HEALTH CARE HAS OPENED ITS NEW SOUTHWEST CAMPUS IN BYRON CENTER. THE GLASS-ATRIUM TWO STORY FACILITY GIVES OUTPATIENTS JUST ABOUT EVERY SERVICE NEEDED FOR NON EMERGENCY CARE INCLUDING PHYSICIANS, LAB, RADIOLOGY, PHARMACY, AND REHABILITATION SERVICES. BUT SOUTHWEST CAMPUS PROJECT MANAGER ROBERTA JELINEK IS QUICK TO STRESS THAT THERE'S A LOT MORE TO THE BUILDING THAN MEETS PATIENTS' EYES. FOR INSTANCE, THE ROOF IS LIKE A GIANT MIRROR, SUNLIGHT REFLECTIVE AND ENERGY SAVING. EXTERIOR LANDSCAPING IS ALL INDIGENOUS PLANTS THAT FLOURISH IN THE WEST MICHIGAN CLIMATE. AND THE HVAC SYSTEM INCLUDES HUGE ICE STORAGE TANKS THAT FORM A PART OF THE BUILDING'S CHILLER UNIT--ENHANCING COOLING AND CUTTING PEAK HOUR ELECTRICITY USE, THEN REPLENISHING AT NIGHT. THERE'S A COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE MARCH 2.
