(wgvu) - VOLKSWAGEN SAYS IT'LL GUARANTEE
2,200 JOBS AT ITS BELGIUM PLANT IF EMPLOYEES ARE WILLING TO WORK LONGER HOURS WITHOUT EXTRA PAY.
IN RETURN, THE GERMAN CAR MAKER WILL KEEP THE PLANT OPEN AFTER IT PHASES OUT CURRENT PRODUCTION OF THE GOLF.
VOLKSWAGEN SAYS THE PLANT WOULD MAKE POLOS AND AUDIS AFTER 2008, INCLUDING A NEW AUDI SMALL CAR. THE FACTORY WOULD EVENTUALLY CONCENTRATE ON AUDIS.
V-W SAYS WORKERS MUST AGREE ON THE NEW TERMS THIS MONTH. TALKS WILL CONTINUE NEXT WEEK.
