AUTO DEALERS-OUTLOOK
(2007-02-05)
(wgvu) - U-S AUTO SALES THIS YEAR SHOULD BE ABOUT THE
SAME AS IN 2006.
BUT INCREASED TRUCK SALES COULD BE A BRIGHT SPOT AFTER LAST
YEAR'S DISASTER FOR THE TRADITIONAL BIG THREE AUTOMAKERS.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE DEALERS
ASSOCIATION'S TOP ECONOMIST.
PAUL TAYLOR ADDRESSED THE DEALERS AT THEIR ANNUAL CONVENTION IN
LAS VEGAS YESTERDAY.
HE PREDICTED THAT SALES IN 2007 WILL BE ABOUT 16.5 MILLION VEHICLES. THAT WOULD ROUGHLY EQUAL THE TOTAL FROM LAST YEAR
-- WHEN GENERAL MOTORS, FORD AND CHRYSLER LOST SALES AND MARKET
SHARE PRIMARILY TO HONDA AND TOYOTA.
TAYLOR PREDICTS SALES OF SO-CALLED CROSSOVER VEHICLES TO GROW BY
8% THIS YEAR.
