OUT-OF-STATE TRASH INCREASES IN MICHIGAN
STATE OFFICIALS SAY OUT-OF-STATE TRASH
DUMPED INTO MICHIGAN LANDFILLS INCREASED BY ABOUT 3% LAST YEAR.
BUT THE OVERALL AMOUNT OF SOLID WASTE BURIED AT MICHIGAN LANDFILLS DECLINED.
MICHIGAN RESIDENTS SENT ABOUT 6% LESS GARBAGE TO LANDFILLS IN THE 12 MONTHS THAT ENDED LAST SEPTEMBER.
THE LARGEST SOURCE OF IMPORTED TRASH FOR THE 2006 FISCAL YEAR CONTINUED TO BE CANADA, WHICH INCREASED DUMPING IN MICHIGAN
LANDFILLS BY ABOUT 2% DURING THE PERIOD.
THE LANDFILL REPORT FOR THE 2006 FISCAL YEAR WAS PUBLISHED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (DEQ) EARLIER TODAY.
