DETROIT ZOO
(2007-01-30)
(wgvu) - DETROIT ZOO OFFICIALS ARE REQUESTING 12 MILLION DOLLARS IN AID FROM THE STATE.
THAT'S A PRETTY TALL ORDER CONSIDERING MICHIGAN'S 800 MILLION-DOLLAR BUDGET SHORTFALL.
THE ZOO WARNS IT WOULD HAVE TO CONSIDER RAISING PRICES OR
CUTTING BACK HOURS IF IT DOESN'T GET THE EXTRA MONEY. THE REQUEST
IS EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS MORE THAN IT RECEIVED LAST YEAR.
SOME STATE LEGISLATORS SAY THE MONEY SIMPLY ISN'T THERE.
