(wgvu) - A BATTLE CREEK MAN ACCUSED OF
SHOOTING AND KILLING A POLICE DETECTIVE HAS BEEN FOUND COMPETENT TO
STAND TRIAL.
JURY SELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN THURSDAY IN THE TRIAL OF
23-YEAR-OLD GENAIL POSTLEY.
HE FACES 28 CRIMINAL COUNTS -- INCLUDING OPEN MURDER IN THE
DEATH OF BATTLE CREEK POLICE DETECTIVE LAVERN BRANN IN MAY OF 2005.
TESTIMONY IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN FEBRUARY SIXTH IN CALHOUN COUNTY
CIRCUIT COURT.
BRANN AND ANOTHER DETECTIVE WHO WAS WOUNDED WERE SHOT AT AN
APARTMENT BUILDING WHILE INVESTIGATING THE STABBING DEATH OF A
66-YEAR-OLD CAB DRIVER, UNICE SHARP.
POSTLEY HAS ALSO BEEN CHARGED WITH OPEN MURDER IN SHARP'S DEATH.
HE'S ALSO ACCUSED OF STEALING TWO CARS AT GUNPOINT AND OF
ROBBING A BURGER KING.
