LONELY GUY
(2007-01-26)
(wgvu) -
WHIRLPOOL IS LAUNCHING A NATIONWIDE SEARCH FOR
SOMEONE TO PLAY THE MAYTAG REPAIRMAN.
THE LONELY, ICONIC CHARACTER HAS REPRESENTED THE APPLIANCE MAKER
FOR 40 YEARS.
HE HAS BEEN UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP SINCE BENTON HARBOR-BASED
WHIRLPOOL PURCHASED MAYTAG IN MARCH AND ANNOUNCED THAT ALL MAYTAG'S
OPERATIONS WOULD CLOSE IN 2007.
THE NEW REPAIRMAN COULD BE A PROFESSIONAL ACTOR, AN ORDINARY GUY
NEXT DOOR, OR EVEN A REAL-LIFE APPLIANCE REPAIRMAN.
THE SEARCH WILL INCLUDE CASTING CALLS FOR UNION ACTORS AND
PUBLIC AUDITIONS IN LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO AND NEW YORK.
CREATED IN 19-67, WHIRLPOOL SAYS THE MAYTAG REPAIRMAN IS THE
LONGEST RUNNING REAL-LIFE ADVERTISING CHARACTER ON TELEVISION.
