MICHIGAN RECORD: ETHICS
(2007-01-22)
(wgvu) - MICHIGAN DEMOCRATS CARL LEVIN AND DEBBIE
STABENOW HELPED THE SENATE PASS A MEASURE TO STRIP AWAY THE
PENSIONS OF CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS CONVICTED OF WHITE-COLLAR CRIMES.
THE BILL COULD LEAD TO A LOSS OF BENEFITS OF MORE THAN
100-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR.
BOTH SENATORS LAST WEEK ALSO SUPPORTED A COMPREHENSIVE ETHICS
AND LOBBYING BILL.
THE MEASURE WOULD STOP LOBBYISTS FROM GIVING GIFTS AND TRAVEL TO
SENATORS AND REQUIRE LOBBYISTS TO BE MORE OPEN ABOUT THEIR
ACTIVITIES. THE BILL ALSO MAKES SENATORS MORE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE
PET PROJECTS THEY SNEAK INTO BILLS.
