(2007-01-19)
(wgvu) - A JUDGE IN PONTIAC HAS ORDERED THE RELEASE
OF NATHANIEL ABRAHAM, WHO COMMITTED MURDER AT AGE 11.
HE AUTOMATICALLY WOULD HAVE GAINED FREEDOM ON HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY
TODAY.
THOSE SURROUNDING HIM IN COURT SAY HE SHOULD TAKE HIS FIRST
UNSUPERVISED STEPS IN NEARLY A DECADE WITH GREAT CARE.
ABRAHAM TOLD THE JUDGE THAT HE'LL DO HIS BEST TO MAKE IT AS A
FREE MAN.
ABRAHAM HAS BEEN LIVING IN A HALFWAY HOUSE IN BAY CITY, 70 MILES
NORTH OF HIS FAMILY IN PONTIAC.
HE WAS 13 WHEN HE WAS CONVICTED OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER FOR THE
RIFLE-SLAYING OF 18-YEAR-OLD RONNIE GREEN.
HE WAS THE FIRST CHILD CHARGED WITH MURDER TO BE PROSECUTED
UNDER A 19-97 MICHIGAN LAW THAT ALLOWED ADULT PROSECUTIONS OF
