GONZALES-JUDGES
(2007-01-17)
(wgvu) - ATTORNEY GENERAL ALBERTO GONZALES SAYS FEDERAL JUDGES ARE UNQUALIFIED TO MAKE RULINGS AFFECTING NATIONAL SECURITY
POLICY.
GONZALES SAYS SOME ACTIVIST JUDGES ARE STRETCHING THE LAW TO SUIT THEIR PERSONAL BELIEFS.
HE ISN'T NAMING THE JUDGES IN QUESTION.
BUT THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT IS APPEALING AN AUGUST DECISION BY
DETROIT FEDERAL JUDGE ANNA DIGGS TAYLOR, WHO ORDERED THE GOVERNMENT'S WARRANTLESS SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM STOPPED IMMEDIATELY.
SHE SAID IT WAS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
A FEDERAL APPEALS COURT IN CINCINNATI IS LETTING THE ADMINISTRATION KEEP THE PROGRAM IN PLACE DURING ITS APPEAL.
