COBO CENTER
(2007-01-12)
(wgvu) - WAYNE COUNTY'S TOP ELECTED OFFICIAL SAYS A DEAL
FOR OVERHAULING AND EXPANDING COBO CENTER COULD BE READY WITHIN SIX
MONTHS.
COBO IS HOME OF THE DETROIT AUTO SHOW, WHICH EXCLUDES EXHIBITORS
EACH YEAR BECAUSE OF SPACE.
WAYNE COUNTY EXECUTIVE ROBERT FICANO AND HIS BACKERS ARE
PRESENTING DETAILS TO GOVERNOR GRANHOLM AND AUTO EXECUTIVES OVER
THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.
LAST MONTH, FICANO PROPOSED A 968 (M) MILLION-DOLLAR PROJECT TO
EXPAND COBO'S EXHIBITION SPACE TO 970-THOUSAND SQUARE FEET,
FINANCED WITH HOTEL AND ALCOHOL TAXES.
DETROIT'S MAYOR AND A SPOKESWOMAN FOR THE GOVERNOR HAVE GIVEN
THE PLAN GOOD REVIEWS, BUT OAKLAND COUNTY'S EXECUTIVE HAS OBJECTED
TO THE FINANCE PLAN.
