(wgvu) - STATE LAWMAKERS HAVE GATHERED IN
ANTICIPATION OF BEGINNING A NEW LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
THE 2007-08 SESSION IS EXPECTED TO BE DOMINATED BY THE STATE'S
BUDGET CHALLENGES.
LAWMAKERS WERE GETTING SWORN IN INDIVIDUALLY WEDNESDAY MORNING
AND HAD OTHER CEREMONIES PLANNED FOR THE AFTERNOON.
POWER IN THE LEGISLATURE IS DIVIDED ENTERING THE NEW SESSION.
DEMOCRATS, WITH A 58-TO-52 ADVANTAGE, ARE IN CHARGE IN THE STATE
HOUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE LATE 1990S.
IN THE SENATE, REPUBLICANS HAVE A 21-TO-17 EDGE.
