(wgvu) - GENERAL MOTORS AND FORD SAY THEIR SALES IN
CHINA'S BOOMING CAR MARKET JUMPED LAST YEAR, A BOOST FOR AUTOMAKERS THAT HAVE SEEN DEMAND SLUMP IN NORTH AMERICA.
G-M IS CHINA'S TOP AUTOMAKER AND HAD A 25 PERCENT SALES INCREASE, WHILE FORD'S SALES ROSE 87% IN 2006.
GENERAL MOTORS SAYS IT SOLD 877,000 VEHICLES IN CHINA LAST YEAR, WHILE FORD SAYS IT SOLD 167,000.
CHINESE VEHICLE SALES THIS YEAR ARE EXPECTED TO RISE BY 15% $8 MILLION.
WITH ABOUT FOUR TIMES THE POPULATION OF THE U-S, CHINA WOULD HAVE ABOUT HALF THE VEHICLE SALES NEXT YEAR.
