AUTOS-AP POLL
(2007-01-08)
(wgvu) - IT'S SAID PERCEPTION EQUALS REALITY -- AND
THAT'S THE PROBLEM FACING AMERICAN AUTOMAKERS AS THEY TRY TO
OVERCOME FOREIGN COMPETITION.
AUTO INDUSTRY ANALYSTS SAY THE PERFORMANCE OF AMERICAN-MADE CARS
IS NOW ACTUALLY VERY CLOSE TO THOSE MADE IN JAPAN AND HIGHER THAN
MANY CARS MADE IN EUROPE.
AN ASSOCIATED PRESS-A-O-L AUTOS POLL SAYS 44 PERCENT OF
AMERICANS THINK JAPAN MAKES THE BEST AUTOS, WHILE 29 PERCENT SAY
THE UNITED STATES AND 15 PERCENT SAY GERMANY.
BUT THERE'S HOPE.
THE POLL FINDS 80 PERCENT OF AMERICAN CAR OWNERS ARE SATISFIED.
AND ONLY 17 PERCENT OF CURRENT OR POTENTIAL CAR OWNERS SAY THEY
PREFER TO BUY FOREIGN CARS WHILE 39 PERCENT SAY THEY PREFER TO BUY
AMERICAN.
