MI CONGRESSMAN TO SWEAR IN PELOSI
(2007-01-04)
(wgvu) - Democrats prepared to elect Nancy Pelosi as
the first woman to run the House of Representatives as the party
takes control of both chambers of Congress for the first time in 12
years.
Pelosi was starting the day today at a prayer service before
being sworn in as speaker this afternoon by long-time Michigan
congressman John Dingell. The Dearborn Democrat is the
longest-serving member of the House.
Dingell administered the same oath to former Speaker Newt
Gingrich 12 years ago when Republicans seized control of the House
after 40 years of Democratic control. He's set to get back his
gavel as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
