In this lecture, Visiting Professor of Religion at Wake Forest University Leah Kinberg (Tel Aviv University) will explore the meaning of Jihad within Islamic traditions, past and present. As a fundamental religious concept, Jihad has always aroused vehement arguments that carried formidable political and social implications. While analyzing the Qur’anic meaning of Jihad, following its presentation in prophetic statements and reaching our own time, this talk will show how the nature of Jihad keeps changing through the ages to serve the causes of rival groups and situations and should actually be studied as a reflection of its time.
