EPA criticizes General Electric's Housatonic cleanup plan
(wfcr) - The Environmental Protection Agency is criticizing a plan by General Electric to clean up a stretch of the Housatonic river south of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. GE submitted a report earlier this year, proposing a ten-year project to dredge a ten-mile stretch of the Housatonic and remove sediment contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyl, or PCBs, which have been linked to a range of health problems, including cancer. But the EPA says the company's plan does not adequately address effects on the ecosystem and recreational use of the river. The EPA's David Deegan says GE has ninety days to address over 150 concerns raised by the agency. © Copyright 2018, wfcr
