MA Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester
(wfcr) - Most public schools in Massachusetts let out this week for summer vacation. But the state's new Education Commissioner, Mitchell Chester, says a longer school year is one of the options he would consider for improving public education. A longer school day and merit pay for teachers are also on the table. Chester was sworn in last month. He comes from the Department of Education in Ohio, where he was deputy superintendent. He told WFCR's Tina Antolini that along with a discussion of new measures, one of the top priorities in Massachusetts is to lower the achievement gap.
