Life Science Industry Leaders Push for Tax Incentives
(2007-12-14)
(wfcr) - A survey released this week says 75% of life science industry leaders in Massachusetts would consider relocating if state funding doesn't keep pace with incentives offered by other states and countries. They say high priced real estate and living costs are the biggest challenges to remaining in Massachusetts, and that tax credits and grants are the best way for the state to help the promising industry. The poll comes amid calls for the legislature to act quickly on Governor Patrick's billion dollar life sciences initiative, which contains money to keep companies in the state. The administration has criticized state lawmakers for dragging their feet in considering the proposal, which was filed in July, but one legislative leader says they're working as fast as they can to pass a measure everyone can be proud of. North Adams representative Dan Bosley is co-chair of the emerging technologies and economic development committee.

Bosley says he's confident a final bill can get to Governor Patrick by mid-February.
