Local Caucus Formed to Evaluate Regional Transportation
(wfcr) - Massachusetts Senator Stan Rosenberg of Amherst and Representative Dan Bosley of North Adams have formed a caucus to focus on regional transportation issues. Rosenberg says Regional Transportation Authorities or R-T-A's, like the Pioneer Valley Transportation Authority, serve roughly two thirds of communities in the state, and are especially important in rural areas where residents don't have many other transportation options. Rosenberg says there will be some heated debates in the coming months on transportation funding. This caucus, which includes all legislators who have a regional transportation authority in their district, will ensure that regional public transportation gets its share of the attention.

Rosenberg says the caucus will also be seeking ways to expand public transportation over the next 5-7 to years. He says lawmakers hope to pay for some of that expansion through a fund that has been paying for the big dig. He says that will free up $150 million a year, a portion of which could be used to increase regional transportation authorities' services
