CT Governor Rell Authorizes New Parole Officer Hires
(2007-10-22)
(wfcr) - Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell has authorized the hiring of 13 new parole officers and three new counselors for the state department of Corrections. With Rell ordering the suspension of parole for violent offenders in Connecticut after several high-profile crimes over the summer, Corrections officers say state prisons are dangerously overcrowded and bordering on unsafe. Governor Rell says the hiring of new staff members to handle parole is designed to move more non-violent offenders out to the community in safe settings.

Rell says the suspension of parole for violent offenders will stay in place until lawmakers can enact a comprehensive reform of the parole system. Two parolees face the death penalty stemming from a deadly home invasion in Cheshire in July that took the lives of a mother and two daughters.
