Pleasant Street Theater to Close
Ross Currier
(wfcr) - The owner of Northampton, Massachusetts' only theater for first-run movies has it announced he's sold the building, and the theater will close within the next 2 months. For a city that prides itself on its arts offerings, this is a blow, says Penny Burke, executive director of Northampton Center for the Arts, especially coming only several months after the downtown Academy of Music also stopped showing first-run movies. She says, in addition to broader concerns, she personally has loved seeing movies at the Pleasant Street Theater.

That's Penny Burke, executive director of the Northampton Center for the Arts. The building's new owner, whose name has not been disclosed, has reportedly decided not to continue screening films there.
