(wfcr) - Connecticut state officials convened a summit at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain Friday for veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. State Veterans' Affairs Commissioner Linda Schwartz says the Pentagon's heavy reliance on the National Guard and the Reserves in the Iraq war means those returning from conflict are not sequestered in military bases, but live as civilians. The summit grew out of a conversation between Commissioner Schwartz and Lance Corporal Jordan Pearson, a Connecticut veteran killed in action while serving in Iraq. 28 year-old Jared Taylor of Middletown served with the Marine Reserves in Iraq, and says knowing what services are available is challenging.
