Springield PD Record Profile Data Voluntarily
(2007-09-13)
(wfcr) - Last week, the Boston Globe reported that almost half the police departments in Massachusetts are not keeping data on the race and gender of drivers who are pulled over. Springfield Police Commissioner Edward Flynn is paying close attention to this information. He was the state Secretary for Public Safety under Governor Mitt Romney when a controversial law was put into effect requiring police departments to log all their traffic stops. This is one way to determine whether police are engaging in racial profiling. Flynn told WFCR's Karen Brown that he's not surprised to learn that 40% of the police departments are not collecting racial profiling data. It was only mandatory for one year. © Copyright 2017, wfcr
