Small Towns Band Together for Federal Funds
(wfcr) - Fifteen small towns in West-Central Massachusetts will band together to apply for federal funds for workforce training and economic development. The Quaboag Valley Community Development Corporation is applying for grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to expand its offerings of loans to small businesses and training for local residents. Susan Rutherford, the CDC's executive director, says the agency provides computer and financial literacy training for business owners, employees, and prospective hires. They also give loans to a range of small businesses who'd have trouble getting financing from the bank-- like day care services, restaurants, farms, and fitness facilities. Rutherford says even though the grant application is to the department of "urban" development-- rural towns need the economic stimulus too.

Rutherford says the Quaboag Valley CDC should have their application for the funding submitted within the next three weeks.
