Mt. Holyoke Graduates Get Lessons in Life from Teach for America Founder
(2007-05-27)
(wfcr) - The founder and president of Teach for America addressed graduates at Mount Holyoke College's commencement Sunday. Wendy Kopp proposed the creation of Teach for America in her undergraduate thesis at Princeton University. The organization now has more than 3500 members, teaching in the country's neediest communities. She told the MHC seniors that to effect change, they should think about two things. The first is the power of inexperience. The second thing, says Kopp, is the importance of time and the rewards of perseverance.

521 seniors received degrees at MHC Sunday. Amherst college awarded diplomas to 409 graduates Sunday. Among the honorary recipients was alumnus Patrick Fitzgerald, a justice department attorney and special prosecutor in the Valerie Plame leak case.
