Jazz Bassist Avery Sharpe Premiers Work with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra
(wfcr) - Friday the Springfield Symphony Orchestra premiered a new work by jazz bassist and Springfield native Avery Sharpe. It's called Rhythm in Red, White, and Blues. This is the second time the symphony has commissioned Sharpe. In 1999, the SSO premiered his composition America's Promise, a work for orchestra, jazz quintet, and gospel choir. Sharpe -who's spent more than twenty years as a member of the McCoy Tyner trio -- will perform tomorrow with the orchestra and a jazz trio including drummer Marvin Smitty Smith, and guitarist Kevin Eubanks, the music director of The Tonight Show. The renowned bassist recently told WFCR's Tom Reney that his interest in symphonic music was inspired by Dvorak. © Copyright 2017, wfcr
