Beekman's Translation Leads to Breakthroughs

A research team at the Mayo Clinic recently announced they'd isolated medical compounds from a tropical tree -- which could lead to the development of new antibiotics. The scientists were using a 17th century book, newly translated by E.M. "Monty" Beekman of Northampton. As WFCR's Francesca Rheannon reports, the UMass Amherst professor-emeritus of Germanic languages and literature has rescued a 350 year old work from obscurity.
