The Slave Trade in Western Massachusetts AMHERST, MA (wfcr) - Massachusetts lawmakers are considering a measure requiring state government and businesses to study how much they profited from the African slave trade. A new book by Amherst College emeritus professor Robert Romer examines slavery in Western Massachusetts in the 17th and 18th centuries.
