Researcher Says There's No Link Between Taxes and Migration
As New England states wrestle with budget deficits, legislators face pressure to raise taxes. Opponents counter that raising taxes will push residents to other, lower-tax states. But a new study counters that argument. Jeffrey Thompson of the Political Economy Research Institute at UMass-Amherst says the impact of taxes on migration is very weak. He told WFCR's Bob Paquette he reached this conclusion by using data from the Internal Revenue Service.
